Peter Hardingham

East Youth Dance Ambassador for Cambridgeshire

Dance biography

I have been interested in dance since I attended a workshop delivered by Wayne McGregor | Random Dance at my college. I am a member of Impington Village College's youth dance company, and I attend regular contemporary, jazz and ballet classes. I have also been a member of the college's Youth Theatre Company for six years, which has increased my interest in physical theatre.

I achieved an A* in my Expressive Arts GCSE and I am currently studying Drama and Performing Arts at A-Level and *IB Dance. I teach a ballet class to 4-5 year olds at the local infant’s school in my village. I also recently took part in a Butoh workshop, taken by Christopher Lane, in which we explored different aspects of this dance style.

* IB = International Baccalaureate

What do you want to achieve in your role?

As a performing arts student, it is important for me to experience as much of this art form as possible so that my studies are informed and accurate. I would like to further my appreciation of dance, keep up to date of what's going on dance-wise in the region and also continue as a performer.

I have an enthusiasm and passion for dance and am dedicated to exploring and experiencing as many genres of dance as I can. I am looking forward to meeting and working with other young people who share the same passion for dance, and learning from these experiences.

I want to inspire young people to make the most out of dance in and out of school, and encourage more males into dance.

What are your aims as an East Youth Dance Ambassador?

My aims are to:

  1. Make dance more approachable to beginners.
  2. Explore and understand different genres of dance.
  3. Apply myself to the art form as much as I can.
